Zawinski's Law
Zawinski’s Law states that all software expands until it can read email. As Benedict Evans points out, this works both ways. Messages become software and software becomes messages. The old adage was that all software expands until it includes messaging. The new reality is that messaging expands until it includes software. In a world where everything is connected and commercialized through the phone, the lines between software and messaging are blurring. As we move towards a future where every interaction is a potential transaction, and every message is a piece of code, it’s clear that the way we think about software and messaging is becoming more unified.
