Scarcity Sparks Creativity
#scarcity
Scientists at the University of Illinois and Johns Hopkins discovered something counterintuitive about human problem-solving: we're actually more creative when resources are limited. In six different experiments, participants who believed resources were scarce consistently outperformed those who thought resources were abundant. They generated more solutions that were both more efficient and more creative. When abundance is the norm, we default to "buying our way out" of problems. But when faced with constraints, our innate human ingenuity kicks in. We stop looking for what to add and start reimagining what we already have. The takeaway? Sometimes the best way to solve a problem isn't to reach for your wallet—it's to embrace the limitations and let your creativity bloom within those boundaries.
