At the core of low agency thinking lies a childhood belief that never fully matured. While we outgrow Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy, many people still cling to the notion that somewhere, a class of perfect, all-knowing adults runs the world.
This =="Peter Pan perception"== freezes our understanding of authority at a childlike level, leading us to place flawed humans on pedestals and attribute god-like qualities to them. The trap is subtle but powerful—by elevating others to an imaginary superior class, we diminish our own agency and capacity for action.
Breaking free requires recognizing that there are no perfect adults waiting in the wings—just fellow humans, equally flawed, figuring things out as they go.
