Narrative Misalignment
#self-sabotage
When we pull up to the drive-thru despite committing to a diet, or "forget" to work on that brilliant business idea, we're not lacking willpower—we're experiencing self-sabotage. This phenomenon occurs when conscious and unconscious desires clash. Rather than a way we hurt ourselves, self-sabotage is actually how we try to protect ourselves from the unfamiliar, even when that unfamiliar thing might benefit us. It signals that our inner narrative needs updating. To overcome it, we must excavate the underlying need being fulfilled by the sabotaging behavior, release unprocessed emotions, and develop healthier ways to meet those needs. Self-sabotage isn't the enemy—it's a messenger pointing to where healing needs to happen.
